École Notre Dame High School is following the guidelines put forth by Alberta Education and by Lakeland Catholic Schools regarding assessment and final report cards during this time of disruption to in-class learning.  As such, our assessment practices are being implemented with grace and compassion, and focused on the needs of the student, taking into consideration the home environment, and extraordinary societal circumstances so students are not disadvantaged.

No student shall be disadvantaged by the cancellation of classes. The student’s final mark as of March 15, 2020 is the default mark for this year. For students in grade 10, 11 and 12, please understand that if your mark was below 50% when classes were cancelled on March 15, you will fail the course if you decide to not engage in the assigned learning between now and June 15. If you do fail a course, you will not receive the credits, and you may be required to repeat it the next school year. Students, if you are uncertain about the status of your mark in a course, please contact your teacher or administration.

Grades may be improved upon but will not be decreased based on assessment between now and the end of the school year. In order to encourage student engagement and completion of work to the best of their ability, students have the opportunity to increase their March 15 mark by up to an additional 15%.

The learning tasks being sent out each week are to help students be as prepared as possible for the next school year. We are proud of the submitted work thus far and hope this extra incentive continues to bolster student participation and ownership of their learning.  Teachers have been providing feedback and students always have the opportunity to improve their work and resubmit it.   Please know that learning tasks can still be completed and submitted, even for those who may not have been able to start yet.

A report card will be provided on June 26 and this report card will show the final mark for the year.  The final mark will be the result of the March 15 mark and the additional marks earned through the online learning tasks.

The learning tasks since March 15 can be found under F2 in PowerSchool.  A checkmark indicates that the work has been submitted.  Students will have received feedback on this work. The March 15 mark will be found under C3 in PowerSchool.

The last week of learning tasks will be sent out on June 10.  Students will have until June 15 to submit work and then teachers will be preparing report cards. We hope this provides the needed information around assessment and report cards.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact your teacher or administration. We pray that you and your family are safe and healthy during this time.

God Bless,
