On Thursday, AJSH students attended the 7th annual Battle of the Books at the Cold Lake Public Library. We are so proud to announce that our two teams brought back both first and second place! The amount of reading and studying that each one of the students has done over the past few months has been phenomenal, and it paid off for them on Thursday! Well done AJSH!!

This past weekend, Siobhan Squires from AJSH attended the annual Catholic Educators' SPICE retreat, with others from our division, to receive her Excellence in Catholic Education Award from the Conference of Catholic School Superintendents of Alberta among her peers from throughout the province.

You called him to be a shepherd to Your people, a voice for the poor, and a sign of Your mercy to the world. As we entrust him to Your eternal care, we ask You to welcome him into the joy of Your heavenly kingdom. Grant him peace, and give us strength to carry forward the light of his witness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Prayer for the Church: As we commend Pope Francis to Your mercy, we pray for the Church he loved and served. May the Holy Spirit guide those who will choose the next pope. May the Church continue to shine with the light of Christ, inspired by Pope Francis’s life of service, humility, and love. Today, all Lakeland Catholic Schools participated in a Memorial Liturgy for Pope Francis with reflections of the Funeral Mass for His Holiness. #IBelieveinCatholicEd

Foods 10/20/30: Students in High School Foods classes at AJSH had the opportunity to visit Portage College in St. Paul to learn more about Culinary Arts as a career path. Students were given a tour of the facilities and provided a delicious lunch. Staff talked about the resources available to students at all three Portage College campuses. Students also had the opportunity to shop at the market provided by the Culinary Arts students and learned how students prepare meals for the community as part of their program. It was an incredibly informative and inspiring day for all.

Thank you as well to Hector (from EllisDon) and Crystal (from Careers) for coming out to answer questions for students in person during our lunch break today. What an exciting opportunity for a potential career in carpentry!

Grade 10 English students took to the court room last week in a Mock Trial, after reading To Kill a Mockingbird. The trial determined if Boo Radley was guilty in the death of Bob Ewell, which was a plot event that took place at the end of the book. What do you think? Guilty, or not guilty?
