École Notre Dame Elementary
Superflex
With support from the school’s Family Outreach Worker and Mental Health Matters Campaign Leadership Group, École Notre Dame Elementary has started implementing the Superflex Program with their Kindergarten classes. This curriculum is a core resource for teaching students about flexibility, self-regulation, self-awareness, social interpretation, metacognition, and executive functions.
This aligns with Goal Three: Students and staff are supported for optimal wellbeing, specifically supporting mental health and wellness.
Reading Buddies
Grade 4 students buddied up with the Preschool group for a reading program the promotes literacy at a young age.
This aligns with Goal Two: Literacy Learners are proficient in the ability, confidence, and willingness to engage with language to acquire, construct, and communicate meaning in all aspects of daily living.
Cheer Academy
Students and staff witnessed the amazing talents of Premier Academy Cheerleading during a presentation at their school. This aligns with Goal 3: Students and Staff are well supported for optimal wellbeing.
Dr. Bernard Brosseau Middle School
Autism Awareness Day
To recognize and celebrate World Autism Day, staff and students created a poster featuring each of their hand prints, representing individuality, diversity, unity and inclusion within the school.
This aligns with Goal Three: Students and Staff are supported for optimal wellbeing under the outcome inclusive education students have access to supports.
DELF
Several Grade 8 French Immersion students showcased their French skills by participating in the Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française (DELF) exam. This official qualification is awarded by the French Ministry of Education and certifies competency of candidates from outside France in French language skills.
This aligns with Goal Two: Strengthen career education to expand students’ pathways in post secondary education and into the workforce under the outcome of promoting and supporting French Immersion.
Science Fair
Budding scientists showed off what they learned during the school’s Science Fair. Students from various grades showcased their curiosity and creativity through captivating projects and experiments.
This aligns with Goal Two: strengthen career education to expand students’ pathways into post secondary education and into the workforce under the outcome of ensuring opportunities for lifelong learning, employment, and citizenship.
École Notre Dame High School
Trades Fair
Students in Grades 9 through 11 were bussed to the Bonnyville Centennial Centre for the Lakeland Student Trades Fair.
During this event, students could Try-a-Trade, ask questions from some of the experts in their field, and learn more about potential careers within the Lakeland region.
This aligns with Goal Two: Lifelong learning, employment, and citizenship.
Unified Bowling
In alignment with Goal Two: Inclusivity, students participated in Unified Bowling at Kingpins in Bonnyville.
Badminton
Students participated in numerous badminton competitions including High School Districts, LSAA Jr. High, High School Zones, and LSAA Districts.
This aligns with Goal Two: Lifelong learning, employment, and citizenship.
Holy Cross Elementary School
Badminton
Eleven students competed in the badminton districts competition in Lac La Biche, with athletes bringing home bronze in Tyro Girls Singles, Novice Boys Singles, Novice Mixed Doubles, and Gold in Boys Singles.

Quiz Night
The school’s annual Quiz Night fundraiser was a huge success, raising over $4,000. The funds will be used to support year-end field trips and the Will Baker Legacy Park.
Alberta Musical Theatre
Students watched as the story of Cinderella unfolded during the Alberta Musical Theatre’s performance at their school.
Everyone was encouraged to sing along with the cast during the final song of the show.
Wellness Walk
Staff and students stepped outside on a beautiful sunny day for the school’s Mental Health Matters Wellness Walk.
This aligns with Goal Three: Students and staff are supported for optimal wellbeing, specifically supporting mental health and wellness.
St. Dominic Elementary School
Numeracy
Students were diligently immersing themselves in the world of multiplication through arrays and grouping of objects to enhance their problem-solving skills and mathematical fluency.
This aligns with the Provincial Domain of Student Growth and Achievement.
School-wide Assemblies
Students and staff gather each month to participate in a school-wide assembly. During these assemblies, students participate and engage in various activities including origami.
These assemblies emphasize the school’s commitment to developing and fostering a safe and caring learning environment, and align with the Provincial Domain of Student Growth and Achievement.
Stations of the Cross
With the assistance of Fr. Nong and the entire school community, St. Dominic staff presented the Stations of the Cross. Students and staff are able to deepen their understanding of their faith.
This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity.
Light of Christ Catholic School
Portage College Partnership
Light of Christ has partnered with Portage College’s Lac La Biche Campus to begin offering four different programs: mechanics, metal work, construction, and Aboriginal Arts.
Students from Grades 7 to 12 are participating in the program of their choice for 10 weeks.
This aligns with Goal Two: Students will benefit from innovative, relevant and alternative, experiential programming (including Language, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, to ensure students are well prepared for work or further studies.
Music Festival
Students from all grades participated in the Lac La Biche and District Music Festival. The school hosted both the Speech and Choral divisions. Five performances from Light of Christ were selected to perform at the district’s final concert, and eight were chosen for bursaries or trophies.
This aligns with Goal Two: Students will benefit from innovative, relevant and alternative, experiential programming (including arts, language, Career and Technology Studies (CTS), Career and Technology Foundations (CTF), Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM) education and, Dual Credit education) to ensure students are well prepared for work or further studies.
Jon Hansen
Sharing his motivating and moving story, Jon Hansen discussed important life lessons with students in Grades 7 through 12.
This aligns with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion under the outcome where students are supported academically, emotionally and socially for optimal well-being
Holy Family Catholic School
Easter Mass
After returning from the Easter Break, staff and students celebrated Mass together at the local church.
This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity. .
Reynolds Alberta Museum
High school students spent a day learning about Alberta’s past during a trip to the Reynolds Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin.
Trades Fair
Those in Grade 9 through 12 made the trip to Bonnyville for the inaugural Lakeland Student Trades Fair where they learned all about the various industries within the region.
Hands-on experiences and learning from some of the industry leaders were some of the highlights from the day.
